10 Reasons why your ACNE TREATMENT is not Working!

What more could any young boy or girl want other than getting rid of the frequent blemishes on their face which seem to plague their very existence!

Hundreds and thousands of rupees is spent  Is it the medicine's fault/the doctor's fault/their own fault or is it something in between??

I'll help you figure it out. Stay with me..

Its neither actually, they are all correct in their own aspects, its just that they are not working in unison..which is causing your treatment to fail.

So here's what you need to do-

1. Make a trip to a dermatologist.

I do not mean a doctor who also gives medicines for skin disease. Every metro/city/town has at least one skin doctor.. if not in your town next time you travel book an appointment. But do it. I've seen multiple patients who were prescribed steroid creams for acne and they ended up with a face full of pus filled cystic acne which took over a year to heal and left scars like moon craters on the skin as well as the psyche of the poor patient. There/s a reason doctors specialize in dermatology.. so you be the judge..

2.Complete you treatment prescription

Acne treatment needs to attack every single factor that is causing your acne. Do not be picky choosy with what you have been prescribed.

3. If you've been given anti-biotics stick to the course and complete it.

But for creams/gels Do not jump and start applying applying everything at once and make your skin red and shiny like a beetroot. PATIENCE is the key to beautiful skin.

The 10 Acne Commandments.

Hello beautiful people :) well today I'm going to share with you a few points which if you follow religiously, your Acne will go away and stay away.

1.Keep your face clean at all times. But wash it twice a day with a mild medicated cleanser and warm water. IF you sweat a lot, then splash your face with cool water as often as you want and wipe with a clean towel/tissue.

Whats In Your Scrub? Herbal or Chemical?

Hello beautiful people :) So my question to you for this week is -
 What's in your scrub?

                                        *

Regular Scrubbing = Dead/Dry cells removed = Healthy glowing skin!

So whats exactly is in your Scrub? And what are the ingredients you should look out for when buying or making a Scrub? And  what precautions should you take?

Let's Begin -

Natural Scrubs - Anything that is slightly abrasive and granulated will help you to scrub away the dead skin cells. Common substances used are -

1. Powdered/Granulated sugar -  A very fine product which can be used as a scrub at home. Additional benefit is that since it contains no oils at all ( plain sugar is just glucose) it wont clog your pores. So it gently scrubs and then melts away. It can also soften the rough areas of your body like knees and elbows.

2. Rice Powder - Another very common household scrub.Fine grainy texture that softens when mixed with water but will not melt away. Has been said to improve skin complexion also.

3. Almond powder - Another very gentle and useful scrub. Has added benefit that it contains almond oil also. So its a very good moisturizing scrub for skin. This helps to improve complexion also.

Signs that your beauty products are harmful. Part-I

Hello my beautiful readers! Let me share with you a few common signs that you will notice when using different beauty products in your every day lives. Some are harmless but some can be quite dangerous in the long run. They are a sign that your skin is being harmed and you must stop using the offending agent immediately.  Do keep a lookout for these. This is Part - I of the series and I post the rest of them gradually giving you time to go through each one carefully.
So here we go !

1. Pimples and skin breakouts - A sudden outbreak of pimples on your face which weren't there previously means that the beauty product is blocking the opening of your skin pores. Even if the product says non-comedogenic / non-pore blocking, please read the ingredient list carefully.
Common ingredients you might find listed are ones which have the following words in them - Lanolin, Butter, Mineral oils, Oils, different compounds of Stearate, Oleate, Palmitate, Propionate, Sulfate and even some pigments like D&C Red etc.No matter how small the quantity, if you have the tendency to have breakouts, these will break you out. So in case a product does cause breakouts, stop using it and let your skin recover. You may try the offending product again, but if it repeatedly breaks you out, its best for your skin to stop using it.

2. White spot on forehead from wearing bindi -  Bindis are an integral part of our lives and we have grown up with seeing married women around us adorn their foreheads with these beautiful tiny motifs. This is a  condition called chemical leukoderma. It is due to a chemical called p-tertiary butyl phenol which is present in the gum of  the many sticker bindis. This causes de-pigmentation which can also become a permanent condition. So be very careful. If you see a white spot developing on your forehead where you wear you bindi and/or redness/itching/scaling dont use that bindi and see your physician.

1.  Myth - Acne is caused by eating oily food, fast food, chocolates, chips, cola etc.
Fact -  Acne is not caused by what a person eats and does not eat. It is caused due to excessive  sebum (oil) secretion by the oil glands of our body mainly the face. And it is caused due to increase in the number of a bacteria which is normally present on our skin Propionibacterium acnes . Occurs commonly during puberty due to hormonal changes in the body. Commoner in boys. Can occur in adults also.

2. Myth - Plucking out a white hair will result in more growing there.
Fact - A white hair is a hair which has stopped producing pigment. Pluck it out and it will grow back again after some time. It will not give rise to 2,5 or 10 more white hair. And it will not release any fluid that will turn the surrounding hair white.

3. Myth - Shaving hair causes thicker hair to grow back.
Fact -  During shaving the hair is cut off from the surface, the root is intact so the hair can grow back quickly. This gives appearance of thicker hair. But it is the same hair.

4. Myth - Suncreen is not needed on cloudy days.
Fact - Sunscreen is needed irrespective of whether its is cloudy/raining/stormy or anything else.Sunscreen should be applied at all times whenever one steps out during the day. Ideally it should be applied before wearing clothes and at least 30 minutes before sun exposure. And should be re-applied after a few hours. This prevents development of dark spots on the skin and wrinkles later on.
